A special Pied Oystercatcher

I have followed the breeding activity of the Pied Oystercatchers in Broome along Cable Beach since July 2000 when I found the first nest site and the birds have continued to use the same territories, though there have been some partner changes. I can also monitor any movement along the coast during the year when they are no longer breeding.

Apparently, when breeding, the two parents divide incubation duties, with one bird taking over the daytime duties and another one the nighttime. At between 4 pm and 6 pm, to be exact. Of course, many people still know exactly what they did when this happened. With a picture of the then-queen of Thailand on it, if I remember correctly.
