Black-winged Stilts breeding near Broome

Not only have the Magpie-larks been busy building their mud nests and the Tawny Frogmouths been breeding at the supermarket car park, but other birds arrived and started to breed. Magpie Geese arrived in the Broome area and bred close to the main highway and have now moved off to deeper water.

Australian Painted Snipe breeding near Broome

After a very good Wet Season with substantially more rain than normal over the first few months of 2017 the land was flooded and a huge variety of birds arrived in the Broome area to take advantage of the ideal conditions for breeding. The more brightly coloured female bird remained at the back of the family group as they swam to shore.
