Red-billed Blue Magpies are occasionally eaten by snub-nosed monkeys. The gory details are outlined in a paper describing that the monkeys eat the head of the bird first but reject the wings. … One sub-adult male caught the bird when it ran into him, and at this time, the other hunting males stopped their chase.

The Eurasian Blackbird was not found in new Zealand before man, but it is now. One such individual was Sir George Grey, who liberated many animals on his estate (mercifully on an island), including wildebeest, monkeys, zebras, wallabies, deer, cassowaries, emu and kookaburras. We don’t have monkeys, or wildebeest, or salmon here.

In addition to Coati we also spotted Agouti , White-tailed Deer , and the endemic subspecies Yucatan Spider Monkey. Sure I spotted the occasional Melodious Blackbird and I was amused watching a Hooded Oriole feeding a Bronzed Cowbird but the birding was definitely less-than-stellar. Not a bad mammal list for a weekend at a resort.

A boat ride into this swamp turns up usual suspects like Pied Water Tyrant and Yellow-hooded Blackbird , but also (and most excitingly) three species of kingfisher: Green, American Pygmy and Ringed Kingfisher. We managed to see both species of monkey, though – so we were ultimately well satiated.

But it happened at that moment that a lot of what I was looking at was avian in nature: a few crows, some sparrows, blackbirds, and other run of the mill inner-ring suburb fliers and flitterers. 118 Eurasian (Chinese) Blackbird. OK, this isn’t much of a list, but all wild monkey sightings deserve recognition! ). Monkey at a monastery. Apparently, this species has appeared in the New Territories in good numbers during this winter. 117 Gray-backed Thrush. 1 seen at Guia Hill; 2 seen at Victoria Peak. Rhesus Macaque.
