City of Albuquerque Being Sued for Trap-Neuter-Release Program

From the American Bird Conservancy : The mayor of Albuquerque and the director of the city’s animal welfare department have been named in a lawsuit alleging that the officials have committed animal cruelty by allowing certain illegal and improper animal management practices to occur related to abandonment of stray cats.

…a City Council committee voted 5-0 to recommend a new law that in essence licenses the care and feeding of free-roaming cats as part of a larger effort to reduce their numbers. And she has a North American bird book that has so far taught her how to recognize a sparrow. She said she has a cat that stays indoors — unwillingly.

They’re resilient and brash, resourceful and intelligent. Plus, they’re sort of ugly.

Elephants used to cross the border here before the war, but the fighting increased incidents of poaching as law and order broke down, leading to highly traumatised elephants crossing the border. It wasn’t massively easy to bird this park, at least not as a volunteer. But despite this, I did see birds.
