What is up with all the frickin’ Wild Turkeys out there? This is the time of year when I tend to see turkeys dead on the side of the road. News stories of turkeys causing car accidents abound around the US right now. In Boston, a turkey was the cause of a 2 car accident during the morning commute.

“European” Purple Swamphens on Mallorca

Birders from the Western Palearctic are very favourably positioned for such a split because three of the six suggested species occur within the WP at various sites around the Mediterranean: The African Swamphen occurs along the lower Nile and its delta into the Mediterranean, while the Grey-headed Swamphen makes southern Turkey its home.

The Birding is Always Good at Cano Negro, Costa Rica

Unless those non-birding folks happen to be duck hunters or love to go fishing, they tend to stay away from the marshes, the riparian zones, the bottom lands. See the birds? Along with the other two members of the finfoot family, the Sungrebe is a super cool weird bird. For us birders, visiting a wetland is a no-brainer.
