Lifer! But, which one?

So I contacted him for the exact location, which turned out to be a beautiful 14-acre property that belongs to his family, and he kindly invited me over. And I did, in fact, see the Great Horned Owl , however briefly, as it flew away from what is apparently its standard perch. That’s 100% Barn Owl butt, right there.

And two Ferruginous Pygmy-Owls toot-toot-tooted from the brush. There is also a family of Barn Owls on the premises, and I have briefly seen the largest of them (enormous!) A Roadside Hawk perched on a post next to, of course, a road. We were unable to see them, but both showed up for photos the next morning.

The Barn Owl was a cosmopolitan species, so as it is split the name has to be shared (American, western and eastern). All good and un-notable in the world of ornithology, were species are lumped and split so often that publishers no longer pretend their latest guide book is up to date. But the name… oh god the name.

This is followed by tales of birds like Barn Owls and Rockhopper Penguins, whose over-reproductive habits practically guarantee that some nestlings will die. If this wasn’t a book about science, I’d say that it was deliberately planned by the nature gods to encourage birding tourism.)

Soccer Player Kicks Owl on Field?
