Pasir Ris Park-Singapore

We started our Singapore bird list at Pasir Ris and leaving the train station we were delighted to see several Cattle Egrets on the grass and several photographers. It is the smallest owl that we have ever seen and it is tiny, especially when you compare it to the Powerful Owl in Australia. Sunda Scops Owl.

Birding a Kimberley Quarry in 2020

The main bird species around the quarry were Zebra Finch , Painted Finch , Spinifex Pigeons , Crested Pigeons , Peaceful Doves and Diamond Doves. A bush full of Zebra Finch . Cattle have been in the area and so there will be small remaining pools from their hoof prints if rain does not come to the area soon just like last time.

Borrow pit birding near Broome

Rufous-throated Honeyeaters , Brown Honeyeaters , Yellow-tinted Honeyeaters , Peaceful Doves , Rainbow Bee-eaters , Whistling Kites , Black Kites , Zebra Finch , Long-tailed Finch and Double-barred Finch were all making the most of the water at the borrow pits. Cockatoo Creek

The egret family were represented by the Great Egrets , Intermediate Egrets and a lone Cattle Egret. Cattle Egret. The highlight of the brief stop was seeing not just Zebra Finch dripping down to drink at the dam, but also Star Finch. There were also Australasian Darters and Little Pied Cormorants. Ducks, Ibis and Egrets.

Layover in Singapore

Let’s take Singapore’s Changi International Airport as an example; it is a huge hub airport with large numbers of people passing through in transit to Australia, Indonesia and south-east Asia. Perhaps I have missed my calling. Anyone with more than a couple of hours to kill could easily make a quick birding foray out from the airport.

Birding at a Quarry in the Kimberley

There actually could not have been much less water really, because it was little more than a hoof print full after the last of the cattle gave up on it for a supply of water! It was then followed by several Zebra Finch desperate for a drink. Zebra Finch. Quarry landscape. The total water left at the quarry!
