Yellow Bitterns ( Ixobrychus sinensis ) showed strongly during a recent trip to Singapore and on occasion it would have been impossible to pose them any better than they were already doing themselves. It is an adherent to fresh water lakes, canals and swamps from India through East Asia, Indonesia and New Guinea.

We played a game where we thought of a number and then looked it up in the bird book to see what it was. When we were not talking about birds we talked about sharks and sea snakes! I then flew into Busan, South Korea after a heavy rain storm Tuesday morning and the first birds I saw were egrets beside the runway.

The world of birding is filled with challenging groups well known to all, birds like gulls , Empidonax flycatchers or cisticolas that require attention to the tiniest details in order to assign an individual to a specific species (if it can be done at all).
