If any "drastic measures" are employed, they are to remove animals from suffering, not to impose our dietary choices on others.

So here is an even more modest proposal than roasting Fido: Try eating only what animals you are willing to kill with your own hands. A decision not to eat dogs has nothing to do with our inherent hypocrisy, but with our relationship to different animals. Dogs were bred to be companion animals; pigs and cows are raised as food.

As the lead prosecutor in this case told the jury, this poor infant was not killed by a vegan diet. It is not enough to simply cut animal products (or carbohydrates, or calories) out of one’s diet. It’s appalling that anyone would think that a diet based on a dubious morality would build a human infant. Children need protein.
