I'm a vegan who thinks we shouldn't be using animals even if we change the conditions of their use. Of course there are oodles of vegetarians who mention veganism and how difficult and restricting it is, and overall I'm having a fairly disheartening experience. And I'm experiencing the rarity of my beliefs. Jekyll and Hyde anyone?

It made me think though about the animal rights movement. Animals can't do that. That's why people say that they have no problem eating them, harvesting them, experimenting on them, etc. The animals can't say, "This hurts me," "Stop it," or "I have a right to my life." Just the sorry animal rights movement.

I immensely enjoyed "EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED" (even on the big screen) and eagerly anticipated "EATING ANIMALS" by Jonathan Safran Foer. Finally, if you know someone who gravitates toward the philosophical issues around our use of animals, this is a good book. Ever, in fact. Not great, but good. Imagine being served a plate of sushi.

As someone who's about to have a one-year old in her life, I was particularly aware of the part animals play in the lives of the children and how animals are talked about. Also, the have families (as if other animals don't). All animals except the dog are called "it" (I did a little experiment to see what would happen).
