The treatment of the animals at the Woodbridge, NJ SeaQuest is horrific. I am posting this here because they had an exhibit of skinny pigs billed as “African naked mole rats.” This was the same for many other of the animals there: potbelly pigs, a sad otter, rabbits, chickens and Bengal cats. The skinny pigs had no enclosures.

Well, Pale Male is documented as having juvenile plumage in November of 1991. The records are amazing and they are documented. They also weren’t living in an incredibly densely populated urban space with poisoned rats to feast upon. How can I say such a thing? That means that he would be turning 24 years old this year.

With those caveats in mind, I took up Dale Peterson’s The Moral Lives of Animals with hope and not a little trepidation. The great strength of the book is in the attempt to create a taxonomy of morality that should, in theory, let us talk about animal moral behaviors without directly referencing human ones.
