Most of their animals get put down. Researchers told the Tribune that the testing gave the shelter animals "a second chance at life," while records obtained by the Tribune revealed that the labs had killed 116 of the 190 strays last year. Only 74 animals survived the research process to be adopted out as pets.

PETA and the Alliance for Animals are asking for charges to be filed against the University of Wisconsin at Madison. It is illegal in Wisconsin to kill an animal by means of decompression. The research is an effort to prevent "the bends," or injuries to divers as they ascend from deep water.

Animal rights activists stretched a 60-foot banner across the Hawthorne Bridge {Saturday} morning targeting the Oregon National Primate Research Center at OHSU. In support of National Primate Liberation Week, the Portland Animal Defense League hung a banner that read "OHSU: Stop Killing Monkeys Now!" From Oregonlive.

How smart does a chimpanzee have to be before killing him constitutes murder? I recently was escorted through a large primate research laboratory by its director. If they are "only" animals, if they are beasts which abstract not, then my comparison is a piece of sentimental foolishness. These chimps are healthy and well-fed.
