From that year onward my work became dedicated to the protection of the area, as well as promotion of local ecotourism possibilities. Since then, the majority of my guests became birders and wildlife photographers. With more than 312 so far recorded bird species, Lake Kerkini National Park offers great birding year-round.

In addition to spotting exciting new species in Florida, including the rare Snail Kite, travel across the country brought me into contact with birds in Oregon, California, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Alabama, and more. Marks National Wildlife Refuge replenished by naturalist spirit, but remained all I could manage.

Geographic patterns of species richness for birds (1,558 species) in East Africa at 0.25° resolution (blue indicates low species richness, while brown indicates high species richness). At the time of writing, Uganda has 16 hotspots with 400+ so far eBirded species, of which one has almost 600 species.

The fish owl is an endangered species, and before Slaght’s work, very little was known about it, especially in Russia.
