Another year of birding in Costa Rica has come to an end, another one begins. I bet some tanager flocks will be in the cards; birding in Costa Rica tends to deliver. It’s 2023 already and I have already started this year of birding. A male American Redstart flashed its Halloween finery and other birds flitted into view.

Best Bird of the Weekend (First of 2015)

One weekend down for 2015 and only 51 to go. I hit Lake Ontario for winter birds this weekend and walked away with a trio of Red-throated Loons. Corey’s Best Bird of the Weekend was an adorable Northern Saw-whet Owl at an undisclosed location in Queens. What was your best bird of the weekend? How about you?

Birding the Eshowe area, South Africa

As usual, my experience with such boardwalks was somewhat underwhelming, as was Eshowe as a whole, but there were still a few birds worth mentioning at the forest and in the area surrounding Eshowe.
