While they didn’t let me walk right up to them, they didn’t fly away from the moment we pulled in the parking lot. I honestly don’t understand the need to sneak up on a snail but then again what do I know, when I was little I had a pet turtle that ran away. I had never before seen a Limpkin do this.

Personally I wasn’t happy, but I do not live there and do not have a septic tank in my backyard, so I felt that I had no right to complain. People came to see what it was all about, with their children and pets, rambling around the green oasis for the first time. Photo by Vesna Petrakovic. On weekends there were larger gatherings.

One of these things is how the retirement community regards its residents owning pets. If you’re a pet owner, you know from experience how tricky it can be finding places to live (other than buying a house) where you’re allowed to own pets. Which is what makes finding a pet-friendly retirement community so important.

On the other hand, in the West, mice, and rats are also kept as pets, maybe with the same logic. I do not have anything interesting to say about the Red-flanked Bluetail right now, but the male is a very beautiful bird. Possibly a survivor of siblicide (which would make it a killer, right?).
