In a recent study , a team of French researchers set out to test whether a drone’s color, speed, and angle of approach affected different groups of birds. It’s quite possible that further research into the internal stress indicators of birds may reveal similar findings. So far, there aren’t any reports of bird deaths caused by drones.

Red-lored Parrot. I had never visited a real jungle before. Abel met us promptly at 6 a.m., Yellow-winged Tanager. Abel was amazing. Almost never.

My research in the Congo supports this idea. I spent a lot of time with Efe Pygmy hunters in the deep forest, and I spent a certain amount of time either entirely alone or with only one other researcher, this or that American. Part of that research was to document human avoidance by ground mammals, and that was stark and apparent.

My first thought was somebody’s parrot had escaped. Maybe a pet macaw or similar bird….but Since then, my research tells me this most likely was a captured bird that had escaped. This amazing spectacle of color came from just above my head, and I truly had no idea what it was.
