The Black-throated Laughingthrush on Hainan is a distinct subspecies (or maybe a full species, Swinhoe’s Laughingthrush, in which case the poor birds would not have to travel to their mainland no-longer-relatives anymore during Chinese New Year). I have seen seasoned clowns throw up seeing the face of this species.

The mother only returns once maybe twice a day to feed and some species of rabbits like the eastern Cottontail have their babies in the open rather than burrows. Kitten milk replacement with heavy cream works in a pinch but squirrel or rabbit milk replacement is the only real substitute. I operate as a permitted rehab in Florida.
