I have been rescuing animals, both wild and domestic, since I was a child. I’ve rescued field mice to horses, and everything in between. I’m allergic to cats, but in my lifetime I’ve rescued five of them. I look at the photo, and am enraged by how cruel and callous human beings can be. It sickens me.

Normally I rant about environmental dangers and describe heartwarming/mind-boggling/headscratching wild bird rescues. ” When it comes to wildlife rescue, transportation runs the gamut as well. They showed me their wounds! “Almost restores your faith in humanity!” The lady didn’t want it to get out.”

Predators and storms can wreak havoc and human intervention is sometimes needed for survival. Even if you do not see an obvious wound, cat or dog saliva, which is full of nasty bacteria, can still get into a bird’s eyes/orifices and will eventually kill the bird; it will just die more slowly and painfully. Ok, so you’ve rescued a bird.

A recent arrival at the Nairobi nursery was an elephant named Murka, rescued near Tsavo National Park with a spear lodged deep between her eyes and gaping spear and axe wounds along her back and sides. The wound was also very contaminated with dirt and debris. This bird was lucky to be found and rescued by a Good Samaritan in this remote area. With human patients, it’s easy – you put them in a hospital bed and tell them to ‘stay still.’ This was going to be a tough case.
