Rottweiler and doberman mix hes such a good listener and he choose me instead of my gf lol he follows me every where and he has such a big story when we adopted him he was on the streets for months and he was skin and bone and the humane center where i live got him to his weight and he has a wound on his back that they gave us meds for happy we adopted (..)

I look at the photo, and am enraged by how cruel and callous human beings can be. I look at these birds, and am enraged by how cruel and callous human beings can be. It’s so much easier to delete a picture than to end the life of a mortally wounded cat-caught bird, like this Downy Woodpecker … who is alive, but not for long.

Predators and storms can wreak havoc and human intervention is sometimes needed for survival. Even if you do not see an obvious wound, cat or dog saliva, which is full of nasty bacteria, can still get into a bird’s eyes/orifices and will eventually kill the bird; it will just die more slowly and painfully. So: When do you intervene?

The man arrived at the zoo with bloody puncture wounds up and down both arms. Puncture wounds require a current tetanus shot, and I was overdue. I wanted to say, you are a testament to the best of humanity, and I am in awe of your compassion. Evidently, it was not amused. I wanted his rescuer to see him go.
