I was on New Jersey Audubon’s Grand North Dakota birding tour this past July, driving along dirt roads through the prairies of western North Dakota. I wanted to see prairie birds and I wanted to experience a new state. I love sparrows, so seeing a feather-worn Vesper Sparrow this past July filled my heart with joy.

Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary was an amazing and unexpected treat, but that’s because I failed to do my research. It’s only 15 minutes north of High Island, though in neighboring Chambers County (High Island is part of Galveston County, good to know if you’re going to be researching eBird checklists). This bunch of possible Costa Rican crypto birds can be grouped into four main categories: (1). Bird species that require further research. Based on even more recent recordings, it seems that the birds in Costa Rica can probably be placed in the Mangrove Rail group. Orange-billed Sparrow song from the Caribbean slope.

The targeted age group is 6 to 11 years. Paige Cunningham and Janet Payne both live in the Cape May, New Jersey area and previously collaborated on a book about Cape May A to Z. The authors note that while the baby bluebirds are intentionally portrayed as caricatures, the subject birds are carefully researched.

This turned out to be nice for one researcher who thus could do the research for her Ph.D. Interestingly, in her work, the researcher found that the birds live in small groups dominated by a single male. New Jersey. I feel that thanking your own baby for moral support in the acknowledgment section of a Ph.D.

I grab my binoculars, camera, and field guide and drive 2-and-a-half hours to southern New Jersey. There are page references to and from the Species Accounts maps, which makes research transparently easy. The wonder of research? Forsythe NWR. There is really no wrong answer to this question, no wrong choice.
