Gaining independence in 1990, Namibia is one of Africa’s “newer” nations, although not quite as newborn as South Sudan which has yet to celebrate its first anniversary! However, Namibia’s colonial history began earlier, in 1884 when it was annexed by the Germans.

Ugly stuff in Namibia, the country with the seal hunting that no one talks about because so few know about it (I mean who thinks about seal hunting in Namibia?) The journalists, who were working on assignment with Dutch lobby group Bont voor Dieren were violently attacked by seal hunters before being detained by police.

Another southern African endemic, this species ranges widely across the dry grasslands of central South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Puffbacks belong to the bush-shrike family Malaconotidae and this group are called puffbacks due to several of the species forming a habit of puffing out their fluffy white back feathers during display.

Prime destinations for seeing African Elephant in the wild include Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Uganda. The Afrotheres consist of several groups of mammals that evolved in Africa and include elephants, hyraxes, elephant shrews, aardvark, pangolin and golden moles.

As the national bird of Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, the African Fish Eagle is usually very busy whenever it stays in these countries, giving speeches, opening shopping centers, etc. Letaba is a largish rest camp in the North central part of the park. It is near a river, attracting some birds that like to eat wet food. ” ( source ) .

Birdlife South Africa has previously done two of these types of trips before, previously called Flock to Sea – Namibia in 2013 and Flock to Nowhere in 2017, in partnership with MSC Cruises. So, I anxiously followed the “Flock to Marion 2022” Facebook group in anticipation for open cabins to come up for sale.

Prions are an interesting little group of procellariid, distinct from the gadfly petrels, shearwaters and fulmarine petrels, and I’ll dedicate a post to the group at some point in the future. Fairy Prions ( Pachyptila turtur ) And then there were the “true petrels&# , insofar as that group has any taxonomic meaning anymore.
