Birdy Boating in Baringo

Ubiquitous Egyptian Geese dabbled in the shallows while a diminutive Squacco Heron stood motionless in some tangled vegetation over the water. Drifting slower and looking closer, we observed a tiny Malachite Kingfisher hunting in the sheltered shallows. It was even pumping its tail, much like the New World species I am accustomed to.

Hilbre, the Sometimes Island

During high tide the island is cut off, but people will deliberately strand themselves on the island to engage in six hours of solid sea watching in the hope of picking up species like Northern Fulmar, Leach’s Storm-petrels , skuas, sea ducks, loons and Manx Shearwaters. Covenham Reservoir is the largest stretch of inland water in Lincolnshire and although it is used for various water sport activities during the year it is also used by many species of birds. The only shelter is at the Sailing Club and there are also picnic tables there too. Canada Geese. kilometres/2.25 Common Buzzard.

It is a sheltered area with numerous picnic tables for the people visiting and bird feeders for the feathered variety of visitors. Greylag Geese in front of Wild Bird Cafe. It was a three Swan species day! Little Egrets and Egyptian Geese were showing well from that hide despite the wet weather. View from Wild Bird Cafe.

Tawny Frogmouth nesting

The dam was very full and there were numerous species of birds present. Most were similar to what we had seen in September, with the addition of Magpie Geese in the flooded long grass. It was nothing like the experience in September with literally hundreds of each species looking for water.
