King Juan Carlos of Spain, Honorary President of WWF Spain, is recovering in hospital after breaking his hip in Botswana where he was on an elephant hunt. Apparently it isn't the first time the King has been shooting big game in Africa, or elsewhere (Apparently he killed a bear in Russia a few years ago too). April 2012.

My only wolf sightings have been in Spain, in December, and at great range. We also saw a leopard, but it was the A to Z that sticks in the mind.

The Domestic Turkey and the First Thanksgiving

According to some sources, when the so-called Pilgrims settled in for the First Thanksgiving Dinner with the local Native Americans, in 1620, they dined on Turkey, and this Turkey came from the Old World, from stock that was originally brought to Spain by Columbus. They may have also had hunting dogs with them as well.

My Year so Far – Modest but Satisfactory

A foraging Northern Bald Ibis near Tamri, Morocco by Adam Riley Extinction, driven by loss of feeding habitat, nest disturbance, hunting and poisoning, seemed inevitable. Habitat destruction, hunting and disturbance are further factors affecting the population.
