I had spent the morning on Navarre Beach, walking the pier looking for sea turtles and dolphins, then making my way down the beach. The beach had a fair number of shorebirds, plus dozens of Least Terns scanning the surf for little bait fish and other prey. Nothing new or unexpected, but pleasant nonetheless.

But why did 60 dead endangered turtles wash up over three weeks? Seems odd, although officials with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality said that fish they've tested have not been killed by oil, but a lack of oxygen in the water. Still, though, 60 sea turtles over 3 weeks? And what about the dead dolphin?

Life in Broome evolves around the tides and it does not matter if you are interested in shorebirds, fishing or the creatures of the reef, because you are in some way reliant on the tide chart. It is not unusual to find a new creature that we have not seen before and this fish lay on its side as its defence against predators.

I also really love the sea turtle, and the “petting” area where you can touch little sharks and rays. So it’s important that people can know about, and hopefully fall in love with, our endangered fish. Penguins are one of my favorite things to visit at the aquarium.
