We here in New York City (and in much of the northeastern United States) are dealing with a pretty major cold snap for late May, with temperatures last night falling down to 46 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius). So while the rest of my family slept in I nipped out to the park this morning to see how the swallows were doing.

Besides, suffering brings birds, right? An entire weekend’s birding in April, the start of spring migration for the wood-warblers, with no new wood-warblers checked off my year list. I moped all the way to Coney Island where I drove with my family on an outing to the New York Aquarium.

He has volunteered to kill a deer cruelly, ineptly and with an outdated weapon that causes additional suffering to the deer. He says he hunts out of a need to take responsibility for his family, who evidently live where the supermarkets offer no meat. Animals suffer when killed. No pearly phrases can make that any better.
