Where are the Shore Plovers going?

Shore Plovers , a critically endangered species from New Zealand, have been reintroduced to several small islands off of New Zealand that were cleared of predators. A flock of about twenty of the birds keep flying from Mana Island , presumably to the mainland, but scientists can’t figure out where.
