An animal rights group has called for a federal investigation into the death of an elephant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Umoya, a 21-year-old African elephant, died Thursday, possibly due to injuries suffered during an attack by another elephant. The Safari Park has 18 elephants, including Umoya's two offspring.

The Supreme Court of Canada could be getting involved in the battle over the fate of an ailing elephant in an Edmonton zoo. All the proceeds will benefit the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) conservation, which has rescued 11 baby and young-adult elephants since its inception in 2006. In other words, it's so tragic that elephants are in mortal danger that you should kill cows to help protect the imperiled elephants?

A kingfisher with a somewhat deficient work ethic, I guess. Here is one: when taking photos of elephants, an 800 mm tele lens is not the best equipment. Even if – as in Borneo – the elephants are comparatively small (they are actually called Borneo pygmy elephants). Or speluncaphobia?

The only way most of us will ever see an elephant (or a tiger or a hippo) is on the National Geographic Channel, at a circus or in a zoo. Tags: Activism Current Affairs Ethics. The elitist “animal-rights” zealots hate to admit this. But most zoos and circuses today, including ours, are delicately sensitive to animal well-being.

Our elected officials must recognize that beating elephants with bullhooks—heavy batons with a sharp metal hook on the end that can tear elephants’ skin—and whipping tigers until they cringe and cower, are ethically indefensible. Why is the United States lagging so far behind?

There is an elephant who deperately needs our help. Nosey the African elephant is with Liebling Family circus in Florida, right now they are in Mount Dora, this outfit violates animal welfare regulations on a regular basis. There have been many instances where elephants in these constant abusive situations go berserk.
