Pied Oystercatchers and Sand Goannas

We have often suspected that the Sand Goannas would steal eggs as a food source from the Pied Oystercatcher nests if they found them. The two pairs should have been close to hatching their eggs from their first clutch. The pair of Pied Oystercatchers to the north have now laid a second clutch of two more eggs.

Black Kites breeding

The adult Pied Oystercatcher that is sitting on the eggs will lay as flat as possible to protect the eggs. The adult Black Kites will no doubt find enough roadkill to raise their young. However, I do hope they choose to scavenge at the rubbish tip rather than on the beach when they reach adulthood!
