And for this overview, I will chose #1 and #2: Corbett and Kaziranga national parks, both in the north/north-east, right under the southern slopes of the Himalayas. The area is known for more than 600 bird species, of which 472 were eBirded by now: Cinereous Vulture , Pallas’s and Lesser Fish Eagles , Ibisbill , Wallcreeper , etc.

Must be a joke, right? The good news is that these two species have a pretty big range, occur outside of Costa Rica, and could be reintroduced given the right conditions (like reforesting more of the Caribbean slope and restoring more wetlands). But how about when the Costa Rica conversation involves a birder? What a horror!

And, in a tree off to the right in that direction, I noticed a mass of stuff that resembled a Bald Eagle’s nest as much as any mass of stuff ever could, but of course, it was not a bald eagle nest. Eagles like their nests a bit farther from roads than that. Eagles don’t like being near developed landscapes.

Another constant problem to be aware of when you are travelling these highways with constant distractions like Wedge-tailed Eagles standing on carcasses are the stray cattle. You can see the condition of the edge of the highway is not great, so due care needs to be taken when moving off and onto it to let larger vehicles pass.
