If it finds a good spot to survive for several months, a spot with enough food and shelter, it might be able to fly all the way back to the north for another summer of song and nesting. 2) If the rabbit is in danger such as from your cat or dog try to release it out of the perimeter. You need to get it to a wildlife rehabilitation center. Domestic animal shelters don’t normally take wildlife and if they do it’s rare. It’s just not their function and against a few rules.

I have wildlife/nonwildlife rescue paraphernalia in my car. I've never seen a dead dog in the road but I have seen cats and I always check for a tag, then call Animal Care and Control (or a local shelter) if I can't take the animal myself and have her scanned for a microchip.
