When I read the description of the Mulga Parrot on a pet website, I first thought it was an advertisement for Thai mail-order brides: “The exotic appearance of the Mulga Parrot might be what attracts you first, but it’s their personality that will win you over” ( source ). Female below.

Seals can mimic humans, you've heard of Crows and Parrots mimicing human speech but Seals can to, one Harbor seal named Hoover was able to mimic his owners voice and could say stuff like "Get over here!" Deer, cattle, camel and goats are more closely related to dolphins and whales then they are with horses. . •

Marlow Lagoon is an excellent place to observe the Kingfisher family and often I will see a Sacred Kingfisher sitting on the power line near the entrance. Other parrots and cockatoos include Galahs , Little Corellas, Red-tailed Black Cockatoos and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. Nankeen Night Heron. Red-collared Lorikeets.

And, although these days I like to switch it around, sometimes using National Geographic or Stokes or a specialty guide or my Sibley phone app, that creased, dog-eared, red library tape bound book is still the field guide I keep in my car or slip into my suitcase for a trip to anywhere east of the Rockies.

Despite the dogs, leaf blowers, golf carts, and other disturbances, I still find this to be one of the most exciting and reliable places in suburban Miami-Dade to see a varied subset of birds (143 species recorded by myself in just over four years of birding here) with the occassional rarity thrown in.
