I am accustomed to seeing a Coyote or two on each visit I make to the park in the early morning before bikers, dog-walkers, joggers, and humanity in general get out and about. But the experience I had this morning put my previous sightings in the shade. But the Coyote count didn’t stop at three. ………

Much like Carrie’s recent experiences being hoodwinked by non-bird sources of birdy-sounding calls , I’ve had my share of animal encounters out in the field. We’ve got coyotes in Chicago and its suburbs, but I’ve never bumped into one in the field. Through the windows of our van, but good looks nevertheless.).

Mauricio and Melba picked me up and if it weren’t for the Coyote we saw on the way it would have taken us 5 minutes to reach Chipinque Parque Ecologico. Amazingly, everyone showed up at dawn except for one person, who’d had a near-death experience with me on Colombia’s Sumapaz paramo, an acceptable excuse for a no-show. Now it took 6.

Coyote as it stayed just out of acceptable camera-range in Irvine Regional Park. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment. Great Gray Owl taking the bait (photo by Nathalie Fortier) At the end of the experience, she posted her photographs clearly stating that the bird was baited, and leaving the mouse in most photos. One wouldn’t tether a rabbit out to get a shot of a fox or a coyote, or is that somehow different?
