My boyfriend's family has an in-ground pool in the backyard and it has basically become a pond after years of neglect. The other night I saw there was still one frog left in the pool and of course I decided to quickly capture it. Awhile back, I noticed there were bullfrogs living in it. They came back again and again.

Of course, I have an emotional attachment to that one individual, Violet Rays. I find that though utilitarians like Peter Singer do have a certain consistency that lulls me into thinking all is well and fair and just, the flip side of that is a startling neglect of the individual. Or paid for food for a year at a rescue kennel.

Birdmania at the Cano Negro Bird Count, Costa Rica

I spent two full days where the birding was near constant, and, just to keep the binoculars from being neglected, topped it off with another half day of birding on our drive back from Cano Negro, Costa Rica. Of course the birding didn’t stop on Saturday, though. I have a confession to make.

I neglected to take the camera into the courtyard in the beginning, though I did bring the hounds and their beds. Though the youngins had some interesting costumes, I must say that their parents easily topped them, demonstrating both creativity and a complete inability to be embarrassed.
