Both animal rights groups and animal welfare groups use "compassion" frequently. Compassion" has been so diluted that most people don't bat an eyelash at the idea of " compassionate carnivores." My definition of violence would begin with the physical harm of living beings. Then again, so do people who kill animals for a living.

Francione has defined abolition in a certain way and if you don't adhere strictly to his definition, you are not a Francione-style abolitionist. They don't satisfy all of the requirements of Francione, but their goal is the abolition of the use of sentient nonhumans by humans. And it usually involves exchanges with non-vegans.

Stephanie's post about " The Compassionate Hypocrite " on Saturday reminded me of what Catherine Friend and other " compassionate carnivores " are doing in addition to twisting the definition of compassionate beyond recognition. Dogs are able to detect diseases such as cancer and diabetes and warn humans of impending heart attacks and strokes. Many animals also display wide-ranging emotions, including joy, happiness, empathy, compassion, grief, and even resentment and embarrassment. In many ways, human emotions are the gifts of our animal ancestors.

Leucism “is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation in animals and humans.&# I had neither seen before nor heard of an example of a leucistic* Ruddy Duck but a quick Google search let me know that this is definitely not the first (not surprisingly). Anyway, enjoy the images and keep an eye out for odd ducks!
