One creature that I almost overlooked as just another chipmunk is the Olympic Chipmunk , known to scientists and Latin enthusiasts as Tamias amoenus caurinus , a subspecies of the Yellow-pine Chipmunk Tamias amoenus. Though they are small and easily ignored chipmunks are also entertaining with their antics.

In New York and Chicago, they’ve been pretty mundane—a White-tailed Deer here, an Eastern Cottontail rabbit there. And of course, way too many chipmunks and squirrels and raccoons and turtles to count. Ditto for the Mule Deer who stood still for a few photos before bounding away.). Any herpophiles out there have a clue?

Lots of squirrels, chipmunks, deer, rabbits. the last part is raptor behavior but I can't imagine what kind of bird would be small enough to choose this space when there's 300 yds of chain link fence right there, and I've yet to see a dead squirrel, rabbit or chipmunk. but that's pretty much it for mammals.

I haven’t just seen birds, but the most amazing butterflies, red squirrels, chipmunks and even a deer… all surviving in forests so close to so many people. A lone Terek Sandpiper in Busan… they will be waiting for me in the hundreds in Broome! I have had a good time exploring.
