Penguins, Parrots and Wine on Matiu / Somes Island

As I have explained before these islands are the best place for a lot of the birding here because they are more easily protected from introduced mammals which wreck such havoc on the wildlife here. Since 1984 it has been planted with native bush and pests were controlled, and is now used as a wildlife reserve. I’ll work on that.

Oil begins to wash up on the beaches throughout May and June of 2010 May 6, 2010 Oil washes ashore on the Chandeleur Islands off the Louisiana coast, an important nesting and breeding area for many bird species. June 2, 2010 BP apparently bans workers from showing dead or dying wildlife and from talking to the press.

Royal Shags and Tricky Parakeets: Birding Queen Charlotte Sound

I went out with the morning sunrise tour and then came back with the wildlife tour in the afternoon, something they are prepared to do for birders who want to spend time on Blumine Island (if both tours are going anyway). New Zealand Fur-seals are the most common pinniped found in New Zealand. Spotted Shags are endemic to New Zealand.
