But of course, also and above all that, I saw birds. Our base camp in Olbia was a bit far north for the Greater Flamingo (though like many wading birds, they are prone to wander when the breeding season is done.) There, of course, I immediately spotted a flamingo. So last week I was in Sardinia. Not quite as cool to non-birders.

A lovely looking and distinctive sounding bird (so they say, I sadly have not seen one…yet), the Kirtland’s Warbler can only be found during its breeding season in Jack Pine forests 5 to 20 years old in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The warbler is on the road to being delisted from the Endangered Species List.
