There are charismatic birds like Barrow’s Goldeneye, Evening Grosbeak, Red and White-winged Crossbills; mysterious seabirds like Leach’s Storm-Petrel; ‘little brown jobs’ like Winter Wren and Nelson’s Sparrow; a treasury of warbler species, 27 in all, many state breeders.

Although they may not be able to intake your found pit bull, they can direct you to proper shelters or other resources to help you in your quest to find the dog a home. Our members are pet owners, dog and cat clubs, obedience clubs and rescue groups as well as breeders, trainers, veterinarians, research scientists, farmers, fishermen, hunters and wildlife biologists. It was created in order to focus more resources on influencing legislation and defending the victims of animal and environmental extremism.

I suspect they also want to prove the superiority of their favorite park (which they emphasize is a natural park, not a designed one like Central and Prospect), and perhaps lay the groundwork for more resources and attract more birders. Because I am relatively new to birding, this resource proved to be invaluable. The other handy resources that I packed were my Nikon Action 8×40 binoculars and Canon Rebel T3 camera with a 75-300mm lens. Its only downside is that it may be a little too big to carry around in the field.
