Photographer Mark Ross has captured some truly beautiful, and touching, photos of animals abandoned at kill shelters. The book, Animal Shelter Portraits , captures just a small glimpse of what our furry friends experience in shelter situations. The photos in the book made me want to reach out and save each one of them.

The other day, Minneapolis, Minnesota passed a feral cat ordinance. So I put together a “carnival” (of sorts) of Feral Cat Ordinances and Issues that samples current events across the US. From the Star Tribune : Feral cats win a round at Minneapolis City Hall. She said she has a cat that stays indoors — unwillingly.

We recently got a review copy of a great new book called Shift Your Habit: Easy Ways to Save Money, Simplify Your Life, and Save the Planet , which is going to be available on March 9th. We really enjoyed the book a lot! The author, Elizabeth Rogers, is also the co-author of the New York Times bestseller The Green Book.

This adorable book combines a cute Yorkie with science. Schmitty, the star of the book, is a real Yorkie who does the weather with Ron Trotta. They have a wide variety of toys for dogs and cats (and even smaller animals can join the fun). Oh, and did I mention that it comes from Shop For Shelters? The Wrapping Dog Scarf.

Christi Drue Dunlap makes it easy with her thoughtful and instructive book that features sweet-but-smart text, children and parents alike learn how to care for and keep their new pets happy, safe and secure. I will provide him/her with food, water, shelter and love.

She has a new book out (which I am reading right now) called One Good Dog. Enjoy the guest post (thanks Susan): As I write this, my black cat, Sasha, is going through her pantomime, telling me that she either wants to go out, or she wants to eat. My youngest daughter spotted the exceedingly shy black cat and wanted her.
