There is also a family of Barn Owls on the premises, and I have briefly seen the largest of them (enormous!) In the area of Morelia, where I live, no parrots are to be found. But here, Olive-throated Parakeets and White-fronted Parrots are a constant presence in the early morning and late evening. flying by at night.

As is typical of urban birding in Costa Rica, we had small flocks of this species fly over and good looks at the White-crowned Parrot , the other most common parrot in the valley. Blackbirds. Some members of this family always do well with people and Costa Rica is no exception.

However, there are those species which have a hard time bringing attention to themselves such as Yellow-shouldered Blackbird , Giant Nuthatch , and Vinaceous-breasted Parrot. Having a family of endangered Red-billed Curassow willingly approach me to within such a short distance is definitely one of them! Or so we thought.

And, it has to be added that all of these artists and the additional seven artists contributed images that filled out plates of most of the bird families.

The real Gung-Ho, Kung-Fu birders would have drove to this site at midnight and just slept in the car or looked for owls until the dawn chorus in excellent middle elevation rainforest but since we have families, and I hate being exhausted and zombie-eyed from lack of sleep, more leisurely birding was just peachy.

Brown-hooded Parrot – Pyrilia haematotis. White-crowned Parrot – Pionus senilis. Red-lored Parrot – Amazona autumnalis. Red-winged Blackbird – Agelaius phoeniceus. Mealy Parrot – Amazona farinosa. Melodious Blackbird – Dives dives. Eurasian Blackbird – Turdus merula.

Both Puerto Rico and the USVI have active birding communities that are currently excluded from full membership in the ABA family. All Americans Should be Full Members of the ABA Family. Adding Puerto Rico and the USVI would largely achieve the goal of bringing all Americans into full membership of the ABA family.
