The Spotted Wren-Babbler had been classified with a handful of other wren-babbler species in the genus Spelaeornis , in the babbler family Timaliidae. An ancient lineage.

It’s not like I had forgotten lists created with friends of ‘songs with birds in the lyrics’, my personal favorites being Sondheim’s Green Finch and Linnet Bird and the Beatles’ Blackbird. It’s relatively easy to classify birds into family groups based on physical characteristics. As they say, the relationship is complicated.

That’s pretty amazing–Bolivia has more bird species than India! Jon Fjeldså’s contributions include many of the ducks, yellow-finches, and many other families where his images of Birds of the High Andes could be used. This unfortunately happens with the large Tanager (Thraupidae) family here.

Of course, it is quite common for human parents to set fire to their family homes in order to keep the adult children from moving back home, but this is not an issue for drongos. A hard-working Chinese Blackbird almost certainly already incubating its second brood is certainly not a target customer for a La-Z-Boy.

Our two newest contributors have shared from Mexico and China, bringing the countries birded this month (also including; Costa Rica, Greece, Serbia, USA, UK, India, UAE and New Zealand) to 10. Red-winged Blackbird – Agelaius phoeniceus. Melodious Blackbird – Dives dives. Eurasian Blackbird – Turdus merula.

If I had more time I could have hiked around to find one of the star attractions, Gouldian Finches , but I had gone there mainly to find two of my target families, storks and cranes. I didn’t find either, but I did encounter one of my other targets, quite unexpectedly, a Grey-crowned Babbler.
