Alexander Rukhaia focuses his efforts on the “ Batumi Bottleneck ,” an Important Bird Area along the coast of the Black Sea in the Ajara region of Georgia.

Not only did we not think about the impact of the Australian wildfires on wildlife, but we didn't see the AP story on our very own sidebar. While the scope of the wildlife devastation was still unclear, it was likely to be enormous, {Jon Rowdon, president of the rescue group Wildlife Victoria} said. We are losers.

It is free to enter Serendip Sanctuary and as you drive or walk up the road into the parking area there are opportunities to see kangaroos and wallabies as you can see above. Many visitors appear to do the short walks, so you can enjoy the area mostly alone other than the wildlife. The sanctuary is open from 8am-4pm daily.

I was looking out a car window the other day and noticed that of all the wildlife most of it was bird. A squirrel skittered by … a squirrel is not a bird. So the thought occurred to me that there is a lot of bird on the landscape, in terms of numbers of individuals as well as sheer biomass.

Most of the birds in the area were well above ground level! There were some reeds remaining as well and enough water to sustain a substantial amount of bird life and wildlife. Western Grey Kangaroo. The bird-life was quite sparse, but we did add Grey Fantail to the year list. Galah above our camp. Feral bees.

It is close to the small town of the same name on the coast of the Indian Ocean, it was our first stop on a nearly 2000 km trip north from Perth, and while it didn’t hold many birds, it certainly provided scenery in abundance. We didn’t see much wildlife but there were Red Kangaroos, Willy Wagtails and an Australian Darter .
