Outer Range Brewing Company: Pluck Pluck Pluck Rice Lager

10,000 Birds

And as much as I’d love to feature once again some colorful spring migrants this week at Birds and Booze, the fact is I haven’t had much luck locating any – well, on cans and bottles of booze, that is. Since most of us are quite busy birding this month, let’s just do something quick and easy this week. Good birding and happy drinking!

Champagne and Birds

10,000 Birds

A year ago, we presented a barleywine, a very strong beer, as a stand-in for the traditional Champagne in our New Year’s Eve edition of Birds and Booze. And a year later, we find ourselves in the same situation: it seems impossible to find a bottle of sparkling wine fit for New Year’s Eve with a bird on the label.

Nowhere in India have I seen broiler horror-chicken like those sold in supermarkets back home.

Brewery Ommegang: Idyll Days Pilsner

10,000 Birds

And as the windblown birds settled down for the summer breeding season and the wind subsided, I found any concern for which way it was blowing died down with it. Of course, there may very well have been fowl-inspired weathervanes in ancient Greece and Rome. And living birds still seem to appreciate weathervanes as perches!

Trillium Brewing Company: Stumpy Duck American Pale Ale

10,000 Birds

I’ll be the first to admit the selection of ducks so far at Booze and Birds has been rather paltry. Stumpy Duck is part of Trillium’s Small Bird Series, a collection of lighter, lower-alcohol beers brewed for summer, with each can sparingly decorated with a different bird in miniature. Not exactly a small bird.

Here’s the new bird family tree. It’s amazing.

10,000 Birds

The magnificent history and diversity of birds on Earth came into sharper focus this month with the publication of 28 new scientific papers in Science and other journals.
