I love living in central Mexico, and miss very few things about living in the U.S. Of course, I also love birding in Mexico, with its 1,000+ species, and seemingly infinite variety of habitats. Mexico, like many developing countries, has a terrible problem with habitat destruction. We should protect it wherever we can.

The cactus are not the only things down here that are protected in this manner. Our local Mexican Ground Squirrels are quite fond of the Chaparral Prickly Pear , or Nopal Cactus as it is called locally.
