These stone-sucking fish can often grow large enough to be immune to cormorants, indeed I thought that this one could have been quietly confident that predators would probably overlook him in favour of a more digestible meal. For over 15 minutes the first bird battled with its fish whilst trying to keep the others at wing’s length.

Despite all of the dangers we have-snakes, spiders, crocodiles, deadly jellyfish, deadly fish, leeches, ticks, mosquitoes and then a pandemic-we still have a population of almost 26 million people. There are Japanese made Eneloop Pro AA batteries that will last for over 1000 photos quite easily nowadays, so this is my ideal camera.

This is a juvenile Grey-headed Fish Eagle , unless it is another fish eagle like the Lesser (the lack of any grey head makes me doubt the identification a bit, but it seems juveniles cannot afford a grey head yet). Purple Herons are not very common and quite shy in Shanghai while here, they behave like they own the place.

I reach for my camera, only to realise that the batteries were flat. There is a tin fishing hut on stilts and some sort of netting across the lagoon, either to prevent the larger fish getting in, or getting out of it. Head for the sea only when you fully recharge your batteries. In the case of Ionian Sea and the Prespa Lakes National Park, I would recommend two full days / three nights, and in the case of Aegean and the Kerkini Lake National Park, my recommendation goes towards three days / four nights.

The bird life of Kruger National Park appears to be distilled into a small area surrounding the hide and they seem oblivious to the observers with their battery of lenses poking out from the wooden building. Chicks are fed by both parents who continue to feed them after they leave the nest in their third month.
