Of course, I also love birding in Mexico, with its 1,000+ species, and seemingly infinite variety of habitats. It now bears lots of fruit for Blue Mockingbirds and Curve-billed Thrashers. The surrounding area (about which I wrote in my last article) is still relatively wild; You can see what the area is like in the header photo.

Late last month, while searching for bears , woodpeckers and spirits of Greece, I deliberately avoided checking any news, especially from my home country. We are facing a plague of poaching that is again decimating the species. Every now and then, I need to cut the world off and clear my mind. One may say so. And it gave me a hope.

In all that swirling of swallows, I am not certain was there a third species, so I keep watching. The forest grows on the new lakeshore and it, too, is a mere 15 years old, but already provides an important corridor for large mammals such as Roe Deer and even Brown Bears , which sometimes come down to feed on beans. Practicalities.

In 2012, I reviewed The Jewel Hunter , an absorbing narrative in which author Chris Goodie travelled throughout Asia, Africa, and Australasia to observe and photograph every Pitta species in the world. Hummingbird species, on the other hand, number in the hundreds. Jonas D’Abronzo.

Part of its obscurity is due to the fiercely protective relationship Cologne has with its beer.

And, to give his dream year a little more oomph, he created a grand once-in-a-lifetime goal: to track down and see every pitta species in the world in one year. Some of his finds are the first documented records of the bird in that area or the first decent photograph of a little-known species. And sun bears. And mosquitos.
