Retirement Age?

10,000 Birds

Partly due to the paucity of birding missions within the past fortnight, but more so because T&T is one of the few countries within which there are several birds bearing the national colours. Here are some of them: For those of you unfamiliar with the national colours of T&T, here is a Red-billed Tropicbird with all three.

US Groups Fight to Save Polar Bear Hunts

Critter News

Now that the species is listed in the US as "threatened," hunters can't import the dead body parts (aka hunting "trophies") in from Canada. Supposedly, environmentalists and animal rights activists have "unfairly made the polar bear into 'the panda bear of North America.'" Here's the article from the Globe and Mail.

Jumping out of my “Beat” today

Creating habitat

10,000 Birds

Of course, I also love birding in Mexico, with its 1,000+ species, and seemingly infinite variety of habitats. It now bears lots of fruit for Blue Mockingbirds and Curve-billed Thrashers. The surrounding area (about which I wrote in my last article) is still relatively wild; You can see what the area is like in the header photo.

Prespa Lakes National Park, Greece: the largest Dalmatian Pelican colony in the world

10,000 Birds

In all that swirling of swallows, I am not certain was there a third species, so I keep watching. The forest grows on the new lakeshore and it, too, is a mere 15 years old, but already provides an important corridor for large mammals such as Roe Deer and even Brown Bears , which sometimes come down to feed on beans. Practicalities.

I Remember Elephants

10,000 Birds

Late last month, while searching for bears , woodpeckers and spirits of Greece, I deliberately avoided checking any news, especially from my home country. We are facing a plague of poaching that is again decimating the species. The way I see it, it is a cruel joke leading towards the extinction of a threatened species.
