A winding track through dense woodlands takes us to the Telia Lake in the southeast of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. Our guide explains that it was discovered by tiger cubs and taken off to play with, hence the claw and tooth marks. All of a sudden, in a hushed voice he says one word only: “Tigers!”

It is an irony not lost on the Chinese public that the Year of the Tiger has not been good for the big cats. On Tuesday, state media reported that dozens of tigers and other endangered animals had died of malnutrition over the past two years at the Northern Forest Zoo in the Chinese city of Harbin.

Things have been tough at the San Francisco Zoo after Tatiana the Siberian tiger attacked those three people in 2007. Here's an article that explains the hard times the Zoo has faced since then. Animal experts descended for investigations of their own, and employee morale sank to an all- time low. It's a long list.

When I was a child, 9-10 years old I went to a zoo, and there was a lynx, who kept on being aggressive whenever he saw me. The second time it happens again when I was around 11, I went to a zoo and the tiger/I don’t remember the animal exactly, got aggressive too as if they were ready to attack.

It's bad enough to send animals to zoos, but to a zoo in Baghdad?? It makes me sick thinking about the animals already there (numbering 1,500 including lions and tigers.). Tags: zoos iraq.

Three endangered Malayan tiger cubs were born at Busch Gardens Tampa Sunday, March 31. Each cub weighs between six and seven pounds, and is currently being monitored around the clock by the park’s animal care team. Malayan tigers are critically endangered. The litter consists of two males and one female.
