At just under 1,000 acres of reserve property with several habitat types, it hosts a diversity of plants and animals. When I visited, it was rainy and a trek through a potentially slippery canyon sounded like I would end up in the hospital, so we ventured along the raised boardwalk.

What’s your opinion on zookeepers and/or owners of dangerous animals like big cats, apes etc interacting with the animals? Ive seen people hanging out with lions or walking along side elephants etc and I find it fascinating. Working up close with the animals but I’d love to hear your views on this.

Still, for the majority of visitors, there seem to be only one species – some of the last of the 400 remaining Asiatic Lions ( Panthera leo persica ). Therefore, it is quite annoying to hear a common question from a passing Maruti Gypsy: “Have you seen the lions?” “Yes, Yes, we did – so what? We’re here for the birds!”.

Mosethla Bush Camp guide awaits us by the open Land Rover and with a loaded rifle in front of the steering wheel, we continue into the bush (oddly, while observing lions and tigers in India, not a single rifle was in sight). The others follow, some dozen animals in all. They raise their trunks, sniffing the air. Sniffing us.

It takes a lot of nerve—or something that can’t be printed here—to name your rat poison after the animals that so effectively and efficiently control rodents but that are also being poisoned—as “non target” animals—by your product. I’ll leave today’s blog in her capable hands.

She turned, looked, and by the expression on her face I guessed she was thinking “Goodness, I’m glad that was not a lion.”. I once knew a guy who kept and raised cats. Have you ever seen the Dryfus Lion? He also had tigers, cougars, and some other animals. That part of the carnivore landscape is taken by other animals.
