Are animals naturally “cruel”, or is it a behavior learned from humand?

Reddit Animals

What I mean by “cruel”, I mean hunting other animals for sport and not survival, harassing or killing members of it’s own species that are different, having wars, etc. submitted by /u/TangentMed [link] [comments]

Birding Tanjung Aru Beach, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

10,000 Birds

The HBW describes the population of the Blue-naped Parrot at Kota Kinabalu as feral – sounds a bit harsh to me given the proximity of Kota Kinabalu to those areas where the species is deemed a proper resident. The first one is the Blue-naped Parrot.

Review: Sparrow by Kim Todd

10,000 Birds

This is the second book I have read in their Animal series and the first, Cockroach , was deserving of equally high praise. All this, she accomplishes in 165 pages, not stinting on lovely illustrations, many in color. Most of the credit for this accomplishment to Todd, but I should also spare a word of praise for REAKTION Books.

Critter News

From the better late then never category, the ALDF is having a National Justice for Animals Week to raise awareness about animal abuse. Adam was rescued by an 11-year-old boy who also later identified the girls who committed the crime, allowing them to be charged with felony animal cruelty.

10,000 Birds

The majority of wildcats live today in Africa, and virtually none of them have provided the DNA from which supposed histories of domestication have been constructed by researchers. He also had tigers, cougars, and some other animals. I find it astonishing that people argue of whether feral cats are bad for birds in North America.

The Domestic Turkey and the First Thanksgiving

10,000 Birds

This is not entirely unknown among domestic animals, but many domesticates have no living wild version. Bringing animals that would require feed and water at that early stage would have been unwise. Thus, the cattle we raise for meat and dairy are sometimes called Bos taurus while the extinct wild form is always called Bos primigenius.
